a) During the hours when no one was in the church, the sacristan noticed that a five-year-old boy would spend long periods of time before the altar of Saint Joseph. Sometimes leaning against the altar rail, sometimes kneeling, and sometimes sitting, he would remain there for hours, gazing at the Saint.
The good brother felt moved to offer this brief prayer:
— O good Saint Joseph, hear the prayer of this little child! Do not deny him the grace he asks of you with such piety and innocence!
The poor little boy was praying for his father's conversion...
— My little friend, the sacristan said to him, if you wish to offer Saint Joseph a beautiful prayer, say: “Saint Joseph, pray for us.”
The boy took his words literally and, changing his prayer, began walking back and forth before the Saint. Kneeling down, he would say:
— Saint Joseph, pray for us! Saint Joseph, pray for us!
He was occupied in this devotion when his mother arrived to take him home. He had to leave. Two hours later, his father, who had not been to confession for twelve years, entered the church to be reconciled with God.
b) A boy from the Diocese of Montpellier recounted the favor he had received from Saint Joseph in the following words:
“When I was playing on a street corner, I was run over by a car, which crushed me against a wall. My body became a shapeless mass. The doctor gave me no hope. My parents hurried to call a priest to administer the Last Rites.
A religious sister, a friend who was deeply devoted to Saint Joseph, sent me a blessed cord of the Saint. She asked me to commend myself to him with faith and confidence. I did so.
Soon afterward, I fell asleep and had a very strange dream. It seemed to me that I saw Saint Joseph, who assured me that I would recover. He also announced that I would become a priest. I awoke joyful and told my mother what I had seen.
The dream came true. To this day, I am well and healthy... and I think of nothing but becoming a priest”...
