DO NOT KEEP THEM AWAY FROM THE SACRAMENTS

In Toulouse (France), there was a family that was not very religious. Since the Jesuit college was undoubtedly the best in the city, the parents decided to enroll their first son there.

The boy, more inclined to piety than his parents, began to frequent the sacraments and derived great spiritual benefit from them.

When the mother learned of this, she ran to the school’s director and said:

— Father, you are turning my son into a devout fanatic. Know that I do not want him to become a friar or a priest.

Not satisfied with this, and in order to watch him more closely, she moved to the city and placed her son in the school as a day student. In this way, she could prevent his frequent Communions.

Poor mother! She feared that the boy would give himself entirely to God and become a fervent Christian.

But what happened? This: little by little, the young man’s Communions became less frequent... until, finally, not even once a year, not even at Easter... The rest is easy to guess. Corruption invaded the young man’s heart and took the place of virtue and piety.

When the unfortunate mother realized this, she ran in distress to beg the director to bring her son back to Communion and to Christian morality. But the priest gave her this answer:

— Madam, it is too late; your son is lost. I fulfilled my duty; you should have fulfilled yours.

And the priest was right. It was not long before the unfortunate young man died, consumed by horrible and shameful vices.
