a) One day the Holy Curé of Ars was in ecstasy before an image of Our Lady. A person overheard this dialogue:
— Good Mother, You know that I could not convert a certain sinner. Give me his soul, and for it I shall wear the hair shirt for eight days.
Our Lady answered:
— I grant it to you.
— There is another child of Yours, very unfortunate, for whom I have obtained nothing. I promise You that I will fast for him for a long time if You grant me his conversion.
— I grant it to you, replied the Virgin.
b) Ozanam, a young man of eighteen and almost an unbeliever, had arrived in Paris.
One day he saw, in a corner of a church, a venerable old man praying the Rosary. He approached and observed him carefully. It was the famous scholar Ampère.
Ozanam was deeply moved; he knelt and wept before that sight.
Later he used to say:
— Ampère’s Rosary produced more fruit in me than all the sermons and books I had read.
