VISITING THE BLESSED SACRAMENT

A priest who was praying the Divine Office in a corner of the church, unseen by others, witnessed a gracious visit to the Blessed Sacrament.

Two boys approached the altar rail: Lino, six years old, and his little brother, three. The older boy took the little one around the waist, lifted him up, and kept him standing on the rail. With his free hand, he took his brother’s little hand to make the sign of the cross, and then prayed with him this brief prayer:

“My Jesus, I love You with all my heart.”

He repeated these last words, placing his hand over his chest to indicate the heart.

When the prayer was finished, Lino explained to his little brother:

“Look, the good Jesus is inside that little house. The images you see above are pictures of Jesus and of His holy Mother.”

The little one gazed attentively with his large, dark eyes at the statue of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, and suddenly asked:

“Lino, does little Jesus love me too?”

“Yes,” Lino replied; “see how He shows us His heart with His left hand and with His right points us to His Mother.”

“Why?” insisted the little one.

Then Lino, slowly, hesitantly, dared to stammer:

“Maybe little Jesus wants us to ask His Mommy for permission to stay with Him.
